There’s a lot to talk about when it comes to shooting techniques, from exposure, to framing, to aperture, to... well I could go on for hours... The point is, the way you shoot a certain scene will completely change the mood and feel for it. You can shoot an interview with one angle showing both people static on a tripod and you’ll lose your viewers within the first 15 seconds. Utilising your gear by incorporating multiple cameras, and sliders will make such a difference.

​Some people ask; how do you make videos that really stand out from the crowd? Well it’s all about being dynamic with your approach and combining all the features and techniques of video production to make something emotionally relatable to the audience.

​Film is a medium that is by design meant to entertain by eliciting an emotional response. Whether it makes you laugh, cry or become angry, a good film will elicit these emotions and make you empathise with its characters.
The films that have, over the years, inspired me to pursue screenwriting and filmmaking as a career are an unusual bunch, that’s for sure. And indeed, there are probably a large number of them which wouldn’t appear on many other people’s “top 10 Films of all time” lists. But, each to their own. Also, the fact that the majority of these films originate from the 90s probably has something to do with that being the decade of my formative teenage years, so don't hold that against me! 
All of these movies have entertained me by eliciting an emotional response in some way or another. Whether it’s though sheer spectacle, or by making me empathise with the characters, it varies from film to film. So, from 10 to 1, here are the films that have inspired me most as a filmmaker.

Leaving the security of a full time job to start your own company is without a doubt daunting as both Chris and myself discovered when we started Motion Factory. So why do it? We both enjoyed what we were doing in our full time jobs prior to starting Motion Factory, and what we were doing was in fact not too dissimilar to what we do with Motion Factory; that is, video production. The reason isn’t that easy to articulate, however it’s fair to say there’s no one reason – there is, in fact, many.

​Video for me has always been about creating something unique, something that no one else has done before. Sure, there’s music videos, commercials, films and TV shows that all reflect one another, but what I’m talking about is making something that cannot be replicated. I think of it as piece of art; you’ve got your Da Vincis and Van Goghs, but who’s to say that a kid’s high school art project is anything less than what these famous artists produce? Every piece of art is different and has unique qualities; it really comes down to the audience that it’s placed in front of. Indeed beauty, and art, is in the eye of the beholder.
